Welcome to the Wakefield Ballet.

Welcome to the Wakefield Ballet. Please excuse our simplicity as our website is still in its infancy and a work in progress. Currently available on the site, you can find out the class description for the Creative Movement/Pre Ballet class now being offered and its schedule, as well as a little bit about me.  My hopes for Wakefield Ballet is to expand to offer ballet and movement classes to a broader age range and perhaps even extend it to the adults in the community. I am sure there are a few of you out there who still have secret dreams of being a ballerina!  I am still getting a feel for what is needed here in the area and welcome your comments or suggestions to help me develop a class schedule to accommodate as many as are interested. Thanks for visiting.

Winter Session enrollment has now begun.

Classes will be held on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at 4:30pm at the beautiful La Grange yoga studios. Classes are 45 minutes long.

Wednesday's class is for ages 4-6. This class will focus on helping the children explore more challenging movement by using Movement Stories, creative play and tapping into their own imaginations to help them realize the full potential of movement they have within themselves. This class will incorporate basic Ballet terminology and steps and help introduce them to the world of classical dance.

Thursday's class is for children ages 3-4. A younger group, this class will focus on basic movement and coordination. Again using Movement Stories and creative play, but in a simpler manner. The goal is help develop confidence within the children so they feel more able to start to expand both their imaginations and movement potential. We will introduce very basic Ballet steps in the class.

In both classes, the goal is to help the children see a new way to approach movement, helping them realize that movement they do on a daily basis can be used to express themselves in a whole new way. They will learn how movement and music work together and how to see dance in everything they do.

Classes will begin January 28th and will run for 10 weeks. Tuition for the session is $140. Class size is limited.

Winter Session Starting.

Winter Session Starting.

With the holidays now behind us, it is time to start enrollment for the Winter Session of classes. I had such a wonderful time meeting and getting to introduce your children to the world of dance I can't wait to start again. I am offering the same classes as last session, with one class being for the 3-4 year old, and one for 4-6 year old, with the 4 year old being closer to 5 in this class.
The younger class will focus on basic movement and creative exploration using Movement Stories and games to help build confidence and coordination. Very basic ballet terms and steps will be introduced.
The older class will help broaden their basic movement skills by encouraging them to explore new ways to approach movement. Creative play and Movement stories will be used to help guide them through more challenging movement as well as help them develop the ability to see dance as a way to express themselves. A broader base of Ballet terms and steps will be introduced in this class.
I am extending a priority to those from the previous session for enrollment. If there is a need I will add a third class to try and accommodate as many students as I can. Class size is limited, however. If you are interested please contact me through the "Contact" button and send me your name, the name of your child, age and the best way to contact you.
I am hoping to have classes up and running for the week of January 12th and run the classes for a 12 week session.
I look forward to seeing old friends again as well as meeting new friends. Thanks for your interest and making the first session such a success!

Upcoming Winter Session...

Our Fall Session is in full swing, so now is the time to start giving thought to what might be happening in January. We are thinking of adding an Adult Ballet class if we can work out a time that works for most people. We would do a class card rather than a set session, allowing you the flexibility to join us when you can and not worry if you can't. Ballet is a great way to exercise and tone up as well as meet some new people. We would love to hear back from anyone who might be interested to give us a better idea if this is something that might be worth pursuing.

Also, we are thinking of adding a beginner Ballet class for kids ages 6-8. Again, times and dates are still being worked on but right now we are interested if this might be something others would like to see. Drop us a line in the contact form and let us know.

Classes are full!

Thank you all for the amazing response I have gotten to these classes. I am thrilled and I can't wait to meeting all of the aspiring little dancers next week.
Both classes are now closed. I am taking a waiting list for those still interested. I am also taking names of those who might be interested in classes starting in January for a Winter session. Details are still being worked out, but if these classes were any indication, they will probably fill up quickly. If you would like to be added to the list for this session or the next, let me know by using the "Contact" button and I will let you know more as things develop.

Thanks again!

Class Attire

Wondering what to dress your child in when you send them to class? The choice is yours. Because this is a creative movement class for very young children, there is no strict dress code, but just be mindful that they will be moving around a lot and we do not want any injuries due to slipping or catching on clothing or accessories. A leotard and tights is the standard dress code for a ballet class, but if this is not feasible, just make sure they are wearing something comfortable that they can move around in but nothing too loose or baggy. Girls should tie their hair back so that they can see and don't not have to fuss with hair in their face. The floors in the studio are wooden and can be slippery so if ballet slippers are not worn, bare feet are best. If your child would like to wear a skirt or tutu, that is fine so long as it is not too long or restricting to their movement. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
